Meet Elvis Wade
Singing Elvis Presley songs on stage and performing God’s work in church, Wade Cummins delivers two messages from his heart.
As Elvis Wade, Cummins has for many years entertained large crowds worldwide, singing Elvis tunes like “Don’t Be Cruel” and “Suspicious Minds.”
Cummins said he was “born again” when Jesus helped him cope with the personal challenges he faced about 25 years ago that included his 20-year-old daughter being killed by a drunk driver.
So now he continues to use his vocal talents to entertain Elvis-style, but also to praise the Lord and sing Gospel music.
An independent movie, “The Identical,” based in part on Cummins’ life, was released in September.
The film, featuring Seth Green, Ray Liotta, Ashley Judd and Joe Pantoliano, will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray Jan. 13.
Cummins said Tuesday he is an ordained minister and described “The Identical” as a faith-based film.
“I believe it is the first faith-based film that had this caliber of actors,” he said. The movie’s plot is a combination of reality and fiction, Cummins explained.
“The guy that plays me in the movie, ‘The Identical,’ his career is my career,” Cummins said referring to actor Blake Rayne, who plays two parts - the famous singer and the identical twin singer.
The movie relates the story of twin brothers unknowingly separated at birth during the Great Depression. One brother becomes an iconic 50’s rock ‘n’ roll star. The other brother eventually sets out as a performer who struggles to balance his love for music and pleasing his father who is a preacher.
“Ray Liotta is named after my dad, Reece Wade, in the movie,” Cummins said. Judd plays his mother, Louise Wade.
Cummins watched some of the filming of the movie, which was set in central Tennessee and northern Alabama.
“The main character and the mother and father actually live in the town I live in, which is Lebanon, Tennessee,” he said.
The film was shown in 23,000 theaters, Cummins noted, but it didn’t make it to Sebring. Many of his friends in Highlands County saw the movie in Lake Wales.
Cummins, in conjunction with Christ Fellowship Church, Sebring, will present his ministry at 6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the Manatee Room at Homer’s Original Smorgasbord in Sebring.
Christ Fellowship Pastor Eugene Haas said “The Identical” is a powerful movie.
Cummins serves his calling to the ministry along with being able to look and sing like Elvis, he said.
Cummins resides in Tennessee, but lives on Lake Istokpoga during the months of January, February and March.
Haas said, “When he comes down, he fills in for me in the pulpit from time to time and I just felt this in my heart to do this to maybe reach some people in Highlands County.”
